Each franchisee prices the same sandwich differently, and nothing official publishes those prices. This site collects them one at a time.

Why it moves

Corporate is the big building. The prices are set at the small ones, by the people who run them.

Most McDonald’s restaurants in the United States are owned and run by independent franchisees, not by the corporation. Corporate can suggest a price, and the operator decides what to charge.

So the sandwich costs what the person running that particular restaurant decided it should cost, shaped by their rent, their wages, and whatever the store on the other side of the highway is charging.

McDonald’s publishes none of it. Two restaurants a few minutes apart can differ by more than a dollar on the same item, and you usually find out only after you have ordered. This site writes the prices down.

How a price gets here

  1. Somebody sees a McChicken price

on a receipt, a menu board or in the app. Stores nobody has logged yet can show a price from an outside tracker instead, always under the tracker's name and with the date we checked it. Not one figure on this site is estimated.

  2. They log it against one restaurant

Once per store per day, in whole cents, somewhere between a dollar and fifteen. Anything more than 40% away from what that store has been running is held for review instead of counted.

  3. That store's price updates

Each store shows one price: the newest that passed the check, whether a visitor's or a tracker's. A report that would move the price by more than 40% is held until a second person agrees with it, so no single number can swing a store on its own. Delivery prices are recorded and shown but never become the price, because the platforms add their own markup on top of the restaurant's.

Somebody reads the menu board, types the price in, and it lands on that store's pin.
